Our patient spotlight for this issue is a real treat. Mr. Chuck Zinner of Glasgow, MT has written his own story, which is very professional. So, in his own words, here is Chuck's Story!

"July 11, 2006

Now that seems an odd date to be using when one knows this is October in the year 2007. That date was a new awakening date for this person and a long overdue one for saying "Thank You" to a company known as The Hearing Aid Institute in Great Falls, MT. Perhaps a short history will clarify this rather confusing opening. You see it's somewhat difficult to admit that one just might have a hearing loss problem. Family and friends recognize it but sometimes personal pride an be a deterring factor. With that said, let's proceed to the facts.

A surprise home test was arranged for me and was courteously performed by one of the company's hearing aid specialists. Needless to say, there was protesting on my part. However, proof was provided that high pitch loss was a detrimental factor and that could be corrected. True, it was. Is that all this hearing aid will do? No, it is designed for multipurpose usage such as background noise elimination or reduction, automatic telephone response, low battery warning and tinnitus (ringing, buzzing, or whistling in the ear) among other things as provided by their booklet for the "Rhapsody 400" hearing aid.

What if hearing aids need adjustments after delivery? Personally I know of one person currently assigned to this northeastern area that is accomodating, conscientious, and reliable. He has taken the time to study and improve his knowledge of the equipment used in the testing of hearing aids as well as the workings of the human ear. That is a fair showing of the word "determination."

Terry McIntosh, servicing and marketing consultant, has become a personal friend. He is a person that isn't afraid to go the extra mile to be certain a customer is accomodated and pleased with their purchase. Each and every person is treated as an individual with needs that must be resolved; and will be to the utmost of his ability.

Please bear with me a bit longer by allowing

me to introduce myself and my family. They're the ones responsible for the original surprise visit by the hearing aid specialist.

Live began for me at an early age in Bozeman, MT. My name is Charles Zinner. My wife was a newborn in Scobey, MT. Her maiden name was Marlene Seiler. Our educational years where spent in Bozeman for me and Glasgow for my wife.

Year 1948 became a memorable one for it became more or less an awakening to the real world with entry into the United States Navy in an attempt at a career. Year 1952 ended that thought. One major benefit was the electronic schools provided by the service which later helped attaining a job with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. The year - 1953 - when the work load lessened in Butte, a transfer was initiated to the hi-line for the summer of 1954. As you can see, that turned out to be a long one. I was here in Glasgow that I met my future wife, Marlene. We were married during the month of September in 1955.

The telephone company's job of central office instillation equipment required many ins and outs of Glasgow to various locations. In year 1959 we purchased a home in Glasgow so our expanding family would have the opportunity of receiving an education in one place. Total number of years for the children in Glasgow's school system - 144 years plus an additional 12 for my wife! A quick math solution provides the number of children in this family, namely 12. Yes we have 6 boys and 6 girls:

Needless to say this old house has undergone several transformations in order to keep up with the increase in family additions. As an after thought it is once again in the process of yet another, and hopefully the final one.

After thirty three years and eleven months of service to the company, retirement became an option and was taken in 1987.

Retirees understand what happens after accepting such an offer and those approaching retirement will have the opportunity to learn - a whole new life opens up.

My heartfelt thanks to Hearing Aid Institute for correcting a problem I was willing to

ignore.

Sincerely & Respectfully,
Charles Zinner.

P.S. Your product is great and so is your service representative.

When your hearing aids are in need of adjustments one person immediately comes to mind. He is accomodating, conscientious, and reliable. Another fact is he will go that extra mile. For those reasons he became a personal friend. He has taken the time to ensure the welfare of my wife or myself if it was impossible to visit him at the appointed meeting place. He once made certain I got to the hospital's emergency room by means of his personal car since my wife is unable to drive due to low-impaired vision.

Terry took it upon himself to increase his knowledge of his testing equipment as well as courses pertaining to the working of the human ear. That, to me, shows a quality known as determination. In fact he corrected a problem that wasn't included in the original adjustment. Tinnitus requires special testing and his determination and patience helped to solve the problem.

Anybody receiving his services will be satisfied. Rest assured he will not stop trying until he has answers for you.

Thank you Terry,
Respectfully,
"Chuck"

As I said, Chuck has a great story and a great way of telling it. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story with us and writing it so wonderfully. We welcome you to Hearing Aid Institute and the opportunity to "Hear the Beauty of Life!"

SENIOR DRIVING

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him. "Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!"

"Heck," said Herman, "It's not just one car. It's Hundreds of them!"

NOTE FROM MR. MIKE

EARLY DETECTION

We are constantly being advised to check for breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes, vision problems and on and on. Why is it so important to check early for these things? If you have noticed, the average life span for both men and women has lengthened by quite a few years. There are many things that have contributed to that figure, such as better diet, more exercise and the medications to combat many of the normal ailments that have plagued us for years. These medications are working wonders to control what would have had serious results if we didn't have them, and early detection.

SO, WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH HEARING?

The early detection of hearing loss can help ward off serious problems later in life if not corrected. You are familiar with the expression "If you don't use it, you lose it." Well, that also holds true with hearing. When you have hearing loss for a long period of time, the brain begins to lose the understanding of speech. Just as a muscle will atrophy over time when in a cast, our auditory senses lose understanding of the English language. If you took a foreign language in school and did not use it regularly, you would find it difficult to understand when you did hear it.

So how is early detection of hearing loss going to help? With hearing loss, not all of the sounds are being sent to the hearing portion of the brain. Hearing aids can help by amplifying those sounds so the brain does receive them. This helps retain the ability to understand the sounds around you, including that all important speech. Not understanding children, women and the TV can be avoided with proper amplification when applied early. It is important to have regular hearing check-ups and have them before the hearing is noticeably bad. If you know someone who is starting to show signs of hearing loss, bring them in for a hearing evaluation. They will thank you for your concern.

Your funny for the day...

We all get heavier as we get older because there's a lot more information in our heads. So I'm not fat, I'm just really intelligent and my head couldn't hold any more so it started filling up the rest of me!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
